Marian Welcomes New Varsity Softball Coach and Assistant Athletic Director, Jessica Garmen

Marian High School is thrilled to welcome Jessica Garmen as our new Varsity Softball Coach and Assistant Athletic Director. With a standout collegiate playing career, dynamic coaching experience, and a passion for mentoring student-athletes, Coach Garmen is a phenomenal addition to the Marian athletic community.

Coach Garmen’s playing background is both impressive and inspiring. She was a catcher for the University of Michigan Varsity Softball Team from 2019–2023, where she earned three Academic All-Big Ten honors and was a key contributor to the 2021 Big Ten Championship team. Known for her leadership and tireless work ethic, she helped build a strong team culture while balancing a rigorous academic and athletic schedule. She completed her collegiate playing career at Cleary University as a first baseman, continuing to demonstrate her dedication to the game and her commitment to excellence on and off the field.

Building on that foundation, Coach Garmen has gained valuable experience coaching at multiple levels. Most recently, she served as the Junior Varsity Softball Head Coach at Clarkston High School, where she guided student-athletes in both fundamental development and high-level competition, while managing all aspects of team operations. She also serves as an assistant coach with Finesse 12U Wright, a premier travel softball program, specializing in pitcher and catcher development and in-game strategy.

In addition to team coaching, Jess has been providing individual and group instruction since 2020, working with athletes ages 8–17 on hitting, catching, and fielding. Her personalized approach helps each player develop confidence, technique, and a deeper understanding of the game.

As Assistant Athletic Director, Coach Garmen will also take on a key leadership role supporting all Marian athletic programs. Her experience as a high-performing student-athlete and trusted coach gives her a unique and valuable perspective on how to support and elevate the student-athlete experience at Marian.
