Marian Field Hockey Heads Back to CHSL Championship

The Marian High School varsity field hockey team is heading back to the Catholic High School League championship for the third year in a row, facing University Liggett School in what promises to be another thrilling matchup. The showdown carries extra weight as it is a rematch of last year?s final, which came down to the last penalty stroke.

Marian?s varsity squad secured their spot in the title game with an impressive semifinal performance, where the Mustangs looked their strongest yet this season. ?The team played very well. They looked their best. They were determined to get to the finals,? said Head Coach Karen Wick.

Several Mustangs have also earned individual recognition for their outstanding play this season. Kamryn Draper and Maddie Najor were named to the All-Catholic Team, while Jordyn Farida and Lucy Mobily earned All-League honors. In addition, Julia Rogers was selected to the All-Academic Team, highlighting the balance of athletic and academic excellence on the Marian roster.

On the field, Marian has been anchored offensively by Najor, Draper, Rogers, and Bella Sheena. Najor and Sheena powered the semifinal victory with Najor netting one goal and Sheena scoring twice. Their ability to finish key chances has been a difference-maker for the varsity team all season.

Defensively, Farida, Mobily, Clair Dauer, and Sienna Wilcox have stood tall, providing the grit and consistency needed to shut down opponents on Marian?s playoff run.

Saturday?s opponent, University Liggett, brings equal skill and athleticism, but Marian believes their team speed may be the deciding factor. ?University Liggett is a tough opponent. We?re equally matched in skill and athleticism, but I believe we have the edge on speed,? Coach Wick noted.

Now in their third straight finals appearance, the Marian varsity Mustangs are determined to reclaim the Catholic League title and bring the trophy back to Bloomfield Hills. ?We are prepared to take back the Catholic League title and trophy. We anticipate and look forward to going further in the playoffs this year,? Wick said.

With history on the line, standout athletes earning league-wide honors, and a determined varsity roster, Marian?s third consecutive championship appearance sets the stage for one of the most exciting games of the season.
