Sarah Sylvester ’22 - Inducted into the CHSL Hall of Fame
Marian High School is proud to announce that alumna Sarah Sylvester will be inducted into the Catholic High School League Hall of Fame on Monday, June 8th, honoring one of the most accomplished multi-sport athletes in school history. A standout in both volleyball and basketball from 2018–2022, Sylvester’s remarkable success at Marian laid the foundation for an extraordinary collegiate career at Texas Christian University, where she has continued to excel while making history as a dual-sport athlete.
Throughout her time at Marian, Sylvester established herself as one of the top volleyball players in the nation while also becoming a highly respected contributor on the basketball court. Her combination of athleticism, leadership, work ethic, and competitive drive made her a cornerstone of Marian athletics and one of the premier student-athletes in the Catholic High School League.
On the volleyball court, Sylvester’s accomplishments were nothing short of exceptional. Ranked No. 66 nationally in the Class of 2022 by PrepVolleyball.com, she emerged as one of the elite middle blockers in the country during her high school career. As a senior, she earned AVCA Second Team All-American honors and was named First Team All-State, solidifying her place among Michigan’s top players.
Sylvester was also named a finalist for Michigan Miss Volleyball, one of the state’s highest individual honors, recognizing her impact and dominance throughout her prep career. During her senior season, she recorded 247 kills and 95 blocks while posting an outstanding .435 hitting percentage, showcasing her ability to dominate both offensively and defensively.
Her leadership helped elevate Marian volleyball to national prominence. Sylvester played a key role in leading the Mustangs to back-to-back MHSAA Volleyball State Championships in 2020 and 2021, with Marian earning a national ranking as high as No. 2 in the country during her tenure. Her presence at the net, consistency under pressure, and ability to lead in big moments helped define one of the most successful eras in program history.
In addition to her volleyball success, Sylvester also excelled on the basketball court. A varsity contributor throughout her high school career, she earned All-Catholic High School League honors during both her junior and senior seasons. As a senior, she averaged 11.3 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks per game, making a major impact on both ends of the floor. Her versatility and athleticism allowed her to become a key contributor while balancing the demands of two highly competitive varsity sports.
Following graduation, Sylvester continued her athletic and academic career at TCU, where she has become one of the Horned Frogs’ most impactful volleyball players while also accomplishing something unprecedented in program history.
As a collegiate volleyball player, Sylvester quickly emerged as a dominant middle blocker for TCU. Early in her career, she posted the best single-season hitting percentage and blocks-per-set average by a freshman in program history, immediately establishing herself as one of the top young players in the Big 12 Conference.
Her success continued throughout her collegiate career. In 2023, Sylvester ranked sixth in the Big 12 in blocks per set while totaling 138 blocks, one of the highest single-season totals in TCU history. She also set a TCU school record with 13 blocks in a three-set match, highlighting her elite defensive ability and presence at the net.
Sylvester became a consistent starter and leader for the Horned Frogs, helping anchor the defense while guiding TCU to multiple NCAA Tournament appearances. Her consistency, physicality, and leadership have made her one of the key figures in the continued growth of the TCU volleyball program.
In addition to her volleyball accomplishments, Sylvester made Big 12 history by becoming the first TCU student-athlete in the conference era to compete in both varsity volleyball and basketball. During the 2023–24 season, she joined the TCU women’s basketball team as a preferred walk-on, providing valuable depth and energy during a challenging season for the program.
On Feb. 7, Sylvester scored her first collegiate basketball point, becoming the first athlete in TCU history to score in both varsity volleyball and basketball competition. She also played an important role in helping spark momentum during key stretches of the season, including a notable comeback effort against UCF.
Sarah Sylvester’s impact extends far beyond statistics and accolades. Her ability to excel at the highest level in multiple sports while representing her teams with humility, toughness, and determination embodies everything celebrated by the CHSL Hall of Fame. Her success has inspired countless young athletes and continues to serve as a powerful example of dedication, resilience, and competitive excellence.
Reflecting on the honor, Sylvester shared, “Being inducted into the CHSL Hall of Fame is a tremendous honor. To be recognized alongside individuals who have contributed so much to the league is both humbling and deeply meaningful to me.
